  • Greater Nashville UU 374 Hicks Road Nashville, TN, 37221 (map)

FEBRUARY 25, 2024, 11 AM: SUNDAY SERVICE

Hybrid: Sanctuary / Zoom

Speaker: Bountao Tao Bouakham

Topic: Guest speaker, Tao Bouckham, will talk on Buddhist meditations and chants.

Buddhism is one of the largest and oldest religions in the world; however, many teachings and practices of Buddhism are still unfamiliar to many Americans today. In today's service, I will talk about the teaching of Buddhism (specifically Theravada Buddhism), my experience as a Buddhist monk, and the power of meditation and mindfulness.

Mr. Bouakham was born and raised in Smyrna, TN, by his loving parents, Da and Nouphone Bouakham. His parents were both raised in Laos; however, they immigrated to America during their youth during the Vietnam War. His mother, Da, converted to Christianity when she came to America, and his father, Nouphone, stayed as a Theravada Buddhist. As Mr. Bouakham got older, he found a stronger connection with Buddhism and became a Buddhist monk for ten days to learn more about his religion and to give blessings to his family. He now dedicates his life as a Theravada Buddhist and loves teaching the Dhamma to anyone interested.

This hybrid service will be in the Sanctuary at Greater Nashville UU Congregation, as well as on Zoom. See How to Join a Virtual Service at GNUUC.
