Guest at Your Table: Stories of Hope from Our UUSC Guests
This month we’ve been learning about four of the courageous changemakers with whom UUSC is partnering to advance human rights and social justice. Here are four short videos in which you can hear directly from these Guests.
Maina Talia, of Kioa Island, Fiji, who co-directs Kioa Island Community Organization, working to make the island more climate resilient and capable of providing food for all, as the community also prepares to welcome climate refugees from lower-lying neighboring islands. https://youtu.be/4ob05W4Dz1U
Cristian Guzman Merlo, a Nicaraguan woman who co-directs UUSC partner Fundacion Entre Mujeres (FEM), a farming cooperative that works across 21 communities to promote the economic, political, and social empowerment of women in Nicaragua. https://youtu.be/6M-OEXOC-Is
Axel Fuentes, the director of Rural Community Workers Alliance in Missouri, which supports the rights of workers facing unjust working conditions in the rural Midwest – particularly immigrant and refugee workers in the meat processing industry. https://youtu.be/A9zaajCOZWw
Myra Dahgaypaw, a native of Burma who fled her home in 1995, escaping the violence and abuses inflicted on ethnic minorities by the military there. From her home base in the US she now works through the US Campaign for Burma to amplify the voices of human rights activists in Burma who are still facing the kinds of abuse that she escaped. https://youtu.be/njxdtLU4KDI
