March's Share the Plate is the Sunflower of Peace
Sunflower of Peace is a US-based 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization whose current mission is to provide medical and humanitarian aid for people affected by violence in Ukraine. Sunflower of Peace was founded in 2014 and since then has worked on empowering orphans, internally displaced persons, and, recently, those most affected by COVID-19 and the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. They are collaborating with a global network of established organizations and institutions that are committed to helping Ukraine in this situation.
Special Collection: On Sunday, March 13, GNUUC will have a special collection for Sunflower of Peace, first aid and humanitarian support to the besieged Ukrainian people. Contributions for that Sunday’s special collection will go 100% to Sunflower of Peace. Contributions for the other Sundays in March will be on a regular share-the-plate basis with Sunflower of Peace..
Due to the current crisis in Ukraine, Sunflower of Peace started a new fundraiser to provide medical and humanitarian aid that will be used by the paramedics and doctors in the areas that are affected by the violence in Ukraine. They are acquiring and distributing first-aid backpacks, medicine, medical instruments, and other means of survival that are saving hundreds of lives. “These supplies meant the world to people affected by violence when we started our first fundraiser in 2015, and they mean the world to all Ukrainians now.” On March 2nd, 2022, the second US shipment is scheduled to leave for Ukraine.
Currently, Sunflower of Peace is ordering supplies both in the US and in Europe. They are working with their partner volunteer organizations in Poland, Romania, and Slovakia to deliver them to Ukraine in a much faster way.
From founder Katya Malakhova: “Sunflower of Peace reached a tremendous milestone - $1,000,000 raised to deliver first-aid and humanitarian support to the people of Ukraine. But while today is the first day of March for most of us, for Ukrainians it is day 6 of the brutal war Russia has waged on their nation. Ukrainian civilians are hit harder with each day and more of them need our help - children, women, elderly people! We stand with Ukraine which is why we choose to extend our goal to $5,000,000. Ukraine is in dire need of help now more than ever as the Russian troops continue their advance.”
