Virtual Quilt Project: Email Photo to Kristin by Friday
As we nurture our connections together this fall, let’s build a virtual quilt together! This activity is inspired by the Threads of Connection virtual quilt project put on by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. (https://www.icaboston.org/articles/threads-connection-virtual-quilt)
For our quilt, you are invited to create your own quilt square that represents who you are. What makes you special? What do you love about our community? What are you proud of? What do you believe in?
The virtual quilt will be a part of the service on Sunday.
Here’s How to Participate:
Gather your supplies
All you need is a square sheet of paper, scrap materials, scissors, glue or tape, and a phone camera. For scrap materials you can use bits of fabric, paper, old cards, photos, yarn, foil, old wrapping paper, and more.
You can even print out digital fabric samples to cut and use. The Threads of Connection Virtual Quilt project at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston has provided this link. Download PDF.
2. Next create a square background with the materials available to you. As long as the background is square, the dimensions don’t matter. We’ll make all the pieces the same size digitally.
3. Then, cut and place into a design the scrapbooking paper, magazine clips, wrapping paper, construction paper, or whatever multimedia objects you find around your house. Layering is encouraged! Once your design is laid out, glue or tape it down.
If you are able to come to our in-person, outdoor October 31 Fall Fest Service Sunday, there will be supplies for you to make a quilt square in person.
When your square is ready, look for a form to upload it in upcoming e-blasts, or bring it to the October 31 Fall Fest Service Sunday.
After the October 31 Service will we post our virtual quilt on the website!
