Thursday, May 14, 2020: Come to an Iftar Feast!

The Islamic community has invited us to join them in the traditional fast-breaking meal held each evening during Ramadan. Normally, they would welcome us into their homes. This year, we will be taking part in a virtual Iftar with a Muslim family. We will have families or individuals paired with a Muslim family in our community, and on Zoom they will explain Ramadan and the Iftar to us and answer questions. You can also have a meal as you share with them, maybe something from your culture or your family background. I know I would probably have seafood, maybe flounder and some homemade mashed potatoes. (Just no pork!) It’s also fine to just connect and not have a meal! Please let Cynthia or Jesse know as soon as possible so that these connections can be arranged. I have joined a Nashville Interfaith group at the request of a new friend who is a progressive Muslim from Turkey. I think these connections will be educational (have kids join in!), enlightening, and most of all, help us move toward a better, more compassionate future.
