ARE: Community Read "How to be an Antiracist" - First Date September 6, 2020 at 1:00pm

All those who responded to the survey have been automatically added to the commonread@gnuuc.org email group, however, if you did not get a chance to respond to the survey to let us know and we can add you to the group for Zoom meeting links and future updates.

Thanks for expressing interest in the book-reading. A number of congregations, including The Temple, are reading this book with the attached study guides. In Spring 2021, Dr. Kendi will be in Nashville and all who took part in the common read will be invited to a luncheon event with him

For the first meeting, September 6th, 1:00-2:00 pm, please read the first 4 chapters. I still have 2 copies of the book to loan and can mail one to you or have them left at GNUUC if you'd prefer not to buy the book. Let me know asap, due to the post office challenges!

At this first meeting, we will decide upon the time and day/s best for all, and probably set 2 meetings a month, so that the group is not too large. My intention is that everyone will be welcome, and no questions, opinions, or feelings will be censured. We will have a covenant and the first rule is that no one shall be shamed or lectured!

I also intend for this group to continue for those who wish, and to become a place where we not only read/discuss books, but talk about the intersection of issues we currently face: race & racism, environment, economy, education, religion, sexual identity, much more. I want this group to be fluid and guided not by some imposed set of standards or "PC" rules, but to be led by "Spirit" (perhaps you define that as love.)

More Soon!
Cynthia

Please let Rev. Cain know if you will join in reading and discussing the book, and she will get the study materials to you!
