Still Spring Garden - A Reflection by Theresa

Wayne and I have been members of GNUUC since March 2017, and I don’t recall when I first heard about our Still Spring Garden. It was probably some time that summer. For some reason, I just never got there to familiarize myself with all the garden has to offer. As most everyone knows, for the last 16 months I have been laid up recuperating from injuries suffered in a car accident. Also as everyone knows, we have all been in a quarantine situation for the last 10 months.

We stay at home most of the time, leaving the house only for doctor appointments and grocery pickups. We have stayed away from restaurants, with the exception of those that offer drive-through options.

On the way home from an appointment, it has become a habit of ours to get off the interstate at the Bellevue exit and grab a bite at one of the fine quick food establishments in the area. Sitting in the parking lot of any of these places to eat our lunch quickly got old, so one day we decided to go over to GNUUC and eat our lunch.

Just pulling into the driveway gives us a warm, familiar feeling. We drive around the back heading toward the Garden. So glad we have such a wonderful outdoor area! We get out and settle ourselves into the nearest table and chairs. And so it goes. All spring and summer, whenever we go to Nashville, we repeat the ritual. We sit at the tables, eat our lunch, and forget all about the world’s troubles. On warm sunny days, we do a little bird watching, as we down our sandwiches. So quiet and peaceful.

Sometimes we run into a few of our dear friends who have come to work in the garden, Mary, Sandy, Caren, Jane W, just to name a few. They come and work hard to make our space a beautiful, tranquil escape for all to use. We peer into the garden, but neither one of us has set foot in it yet. We’ve seen the photos, but are anxious to check it out in person. So when I can get around, it’s the first place on my list to visit!

So until then, and in the cold of winter, we’ll still go there, we’ll just stay in the car and have our lunch. It hasn’t let us down yet.

Thank you very much, Theresa, for your reflection.
