UUSC Guest at Your Table 2022-23: Our December Share the Plate Partner

Our Share the Plate partner for December is the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee Guest At Your Table Program. UUSC works around the world to advance human rights and social justice, transforming our UU values into action. GNUUC has a long tradition of celebrating our UUSC Guests. The theme of this year’s program is “Hope. Courage. Action.”

Through the Guest at Your Table program, congregations provide vital support to those who need it most, including communities impacted by forced migration, climate disasters, and other human-made crises. This year has seen escalations of violence in places like Ukraine and Burma, devastation to communities around the world due to the climate crisis, and the increased need for solidarity with historically marginalized people seeking refuge within the United States. UUSC’s grassroots partners are asking us to seek hope, find our courage, and take action with them in this critical moment.

This year we are highlighting as our Guests the following leaders from UUSC partner organizations:

Ineza Umuhoza Grace, Global Coordinator and co-founder of the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition, is amplifying the voices of youth impacted by the climate crisis as they petition governments around the world to take meaningful action for climate justice. https://vimeo.com/755275445/ae06bf9930

Zsolt Szekeres, leading the Hungarian Helsinki Committee’s Refugee Program, is providing legal assistance and social resources to refugees and asylum seekers, including people fleeing Ukraine who are seeking safety in Hungary following the Russian invasion. https://vimeo.com/762051555/91d179297b

Ian Zdanowicz is co-director of the Queer Detainee Empowerment Project, an organization offering support, solidarity, and community for LGBTQIA+ people in U.S. immigration detention and those who have been recently released. https://vimeo.com/755692226/06970cabfa

Naw Wah Ku Shee, of the Karen Peace Support Network, is working with her own Karen community and other ethnic minorities in Burma to lift the voices of those resisting the violent military junta and promoting a democratic Burmese society to the international community. https://vimeo.com/755265675/f8985674f5
