Garden in late May

Roses and oak leaf hydrangea are in bloom.

Violets provide a natural ground cover. Some insect is nibbling the red buckeye leaves. The insect may become a meal for a bird.

This is a natural process, and the health of the tree is good.

The delicate mushroom made a brief appearance.

Some insects are shedding their exoskeletons, in order to grow.

Thanks, Sandy B, for spotting the empty insect shell.

The yellow spotted millipede cannot bite, pinch, or sting, but it may give off defensive caustic secretions that can discolor or blister skin.

It's best to look but not touch!
