Walden’s Puddle: Our January Share the Plate Partner
Our Share the Plate partner for January is Walden’s Puddle Wildlife Center of Greater Nashville. Walden’s Puddle provides care and treatment to sick, injured, and orphaned native Tennessee wildlife. A professionally-staffed wildlife rehabilitation facility in Middle Tennessee, Walden’s Puddle does not charge for services and receives no federal or state funding. “We are here to help wildlife in trouble.”
Walden’s Puddle’s mission is “Giving Wildlife a Second Chance.” Individuals in our community bring injured, sick, and orphaned animals to them. Once they have recovered or matured and are capable of taking care of themselves, the animals are released back into the wild. Committed to wildlife rehabilitation and education, Walden’s Puddle is a hands-on environmental and conservation organization.
The only wildlife rehabilitation and education center in Middle Tennessee, Walden’s Puddle admits over 3,500 injured or orphaned animals of over 100 species per year. They have an education department that provides programs throughout our community. They also provide the opportunity for 20 to 30 biology, environmental education, pre-veterinary and veterinary technologist students per year from area colleges like Austin Peay, Vanderbilt, Belmont, UT, Columbia State and Volunteer State, to receive unique training otherwise unavailable to them.
Walden’s Puddle has been rehabilitating wildlife since 1989, and the need for its services has never been greater, as commercial and residential development increasingly encroaches on wild animals’ natural habitats. Over 92% of every dollar donated to Walden’s Puddle is spent directly on animal care. Please give generously this month to Share the Plate with Walden’s Puddle!
