CRE: Fall 2020 Children's RE Programming - Register Your Children Now!
Welcome to Fall 2020 Children's RE Programming
We are looking forward to continuing our Children’s Religious Education Programming after being apart for so long!
After parent and teacher feedback in our Children’s RE Retreat last weekend, this year we will are considering a hybrid model for Children’s RE. We will be meeting in person, outdoors, with masks and social distancing two times a month, and meeting via Zoom classes two times a month.
Since we have around 20 children, 10 in the Children’s RE program, and 10 in the Teen Youth Program, we feel that we can do this with success. However, these plans may change at any point, so please check weekly emails for updates.
A BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteers participating to make this happen!

Saturday before 1st Sunday of Month: 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM: Outdoor Souls Matter RE - Theme Introduction
All ages meet outdoors at Greater Nashville UU Congregation for Soul Matters RE programming. The first Saturday will be an introduction to the monthly theme.
Parts of our programming, such as chalice lighting, extinguishing, puppet shows, science experiments, readings, will be videotaped (with parent permission) to be used in the Family Service the following day. To make this work, we will consider live-streaming the service, but NOT recording it and posting it to the website or YouTube. Parents will be asked to provide input on this.
Everyone will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing. An updated policy on this will be available in June.
If the weather does not permit outdoor activities, we will meet via Zoom.
Saturday Soul Matters RE Facilitators: Caren S-S (elementary), Kristin R. (teen youth).
For Children’s RE, parents/guardians who arrive with their children will be helpers. This allows us to have parents or guardians “help” younger children with activities so that facilitators can keep distance.
For Teen Youth, parents do not need to stay as helpers. Teen Youth will need to sign a covenant that includes social distancing rules and mask-wearing. If they cannot keep the covenant, they will need to leave.
We have 10 families and 5 bathrooms. We are still working on the bathroom policy. We are considering assigning bathrooms to families. If more than 5 families need to use the restroom during the 2-hour window, we will come up with a plan. Bathrooms are cleaned once a week by cleaning service and the church is not being used during the week.
2nd and 4th Sunday: 1:00 - 2:00 PM: Soul Matters CRE / Teen Youth Classes via Zoom
We will have RE classes via Zoom. Children will be divided into two groups: Children’s RE and Teen Youth RE. Children in grades 7 -8 can choose which programming to participate in.
Children’s RE Teachers: Claire S, Tina C.
Children’s RE Helpers: Susan D, Lindyne B.
Teen Youth Facilitators: Chris G, Ryan D, Kristin R, Nathanael R.
Available to Fill in as Substitute: Jennie G.
Saturday before 3rd Sunday of Month: Outdoors Community “Fun” RE
On the Saturday before the 3rd Sunday of the month, we will plan a fun outdoor community RE, such as a kickball game, movie night, group yoga, etc. Also with masks and social distancing.
If the weather does not permit outdoor activities, we will cancel or reschedule.
These plans are currently tentative per feedback from parents. Look for an email coming soon.
Please contact Kristin R. with questions, suggestions, and feedback!
